"Magdalena and the Staff of Stories"
”Magdalena și toiagul poveștilor”/"Magdalena and the Staff of Stories" is a Romanian short story written by Cătălina Gheorghian and published by Crimca.
The story follows the main character as she grows from a young mother struggling with conflicting emotions and missing her former self, into a peaceful fulfilled woman, embracing and rejoicing in the new life she was blessed with.
Technique and Process
For this project I created the cover illustration, 9 full-page illustrations and 5 spot illustrations.
Because the story is heavily based on an inner journey which speaks more about feelings and thoughts, I decided that for the illustrations the most suitable look would be a soft style, playing with pastel colours, delicate light ambiance and beautiful watercolour textures. To achieve this, I combined pencil drawings, watercolour washes and digital colour.
