Living with clarity, intention and purpose

There was a time before social media and the internet, a time even before television, when people used their daily time with presence of mind and with intention. I recently finished reading a book about the Russian Imperial family, the Romanovs, and some of the passages that really impressed me were the ones that described their daily routines during captivity. They had nothing left of their former lives, not even the freedom to leave the confines of a house, yet their lives were enriched by spending quality time however they could. They had a time for work, a time for taking tea together, a time for reading and doing needlework, a time for prayer and even a time for sitting still and looking out the window. Everything was done with presence of mind and the time they spent together doing something was indeed a "together" time. Just reading about it gave me a feeling of calm. Doing many things in your day, with full presence absorbing each experience, no matter how simple. What a beautiful and noble way of life.

I want that back for our our world, I want that for myself.

I got off Instagram and I ponder on the idea of getting off Facebook as well. I want my time back and my mind back. I want to create and share my work with people, but social media is not serving that purpose anymore. It's all a big chaotic circus fair. A vanity trap, a FOMO trap :)

Blogging might see a comeback, if other people start feeling the same way. I used to blog, many years ago, before I switched over to Facebook, where all the cool stuff seemed to happen. But now, I think I will switch back. Sharing my work and my thoughts in a little place of my own, without counting likes and views, getting distracted by some other thing in my newsfeed, sounds like the best solution.

I little piece of studio diary, no distraction, no pressure.
